Trafficking Survivors’ Journalism Project
The Trafficking Survivors’ Journalism Project began when a group of human trafficking survivors who work professionally as journalists, writers, producers, and editors lamented how poorly human trafficking stories are covered in the media. After years of research, we developed a workshop curriculum to share with newsrooms, J schools, and media guilds in order to train members of the media on what accurate and trauma-informed journalism looks like when covering human trafficking stories. Most human trafficking stories are covered poorly, and as a group of trafficking survivor journalists and editors with lived experience, we’re acutely aware of how high the stakes are when the public and legislators are misinformed on these complicated and nuanced issues.
